San Marino Green Festival – The pleasure of being green
The third edition of the San Marino Green Festival
Enjoying the benefits of a sparkling autumn season, the San Marino Green Festival finally presents itself to the public with all the potential that the media allows. We say finally because, after a low-key first edition and a second edition besieged by Covid, the 2021 edition can play its cards, which are not few.
Starting with the title, Seeing the grass from the roots’ perspective, Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 October 2021 will be a great celebration dedicated to trees, biodiversity and agriculture. Roots are understood in a broad sense, as cultural heritage, a sense of community and the ability to cooperate. In this sense, Professor Stefano Mancuso’s lectio magistralis on Saturday 23 October is a strong sign that characterises this year’s edition. Mancuso, an internationally renowned botanist and academic, is now well known to the general public for his theories on plant intelligence. Booking is recommended. This will be followed by Ipermare – Artists talk by Sara Michieletto and Elisabetta Zavoli, to reiterate the concept of hypermarine, the underground relationship between fungi and plant roots. Saturday 23 October ends with a bang: a gala evening with the award ceremony for the winning short films of the San Marino Green Movie.
The big news this year – the backdrop that runs throughout the festival and engages Borgo Maggiore as the location for a festive and colourful market – is Borgo Green: a showcase of sustainability that brings together the trends of the modern ecological lifestyle, from community gardens to organic cosmetics, along with everything that makes a home pleasant and environmentally friendly: plants, gifts, food products, books and clothing. In addition to this, there is ample space for local companies working in the green sector, promoting the principles that support the culture of sustainability. A wide-ranging showcase that also includes courses in home gardening and book presentations on the subject.
Among the events that punctuate the festival, we would like to highlight the guided tours of the Sustainable Archives, a temporary collection hosted by the Casa di Castello, which is gradually collecting works donated by artists that in some way intersect with the themes of the festival, and the two round tables, one entitled Beyond Organic: Sustainability, Quality, Precision. The Future of Agriculture, on Saturday at 11.30 a.m., and Eco-sustainability of Materials: Evolution and Future, on Sunday at 11.30 a.m.
We won’t reveal everything, but the San Marino Green Festival is an event that has many surprises in store and aims to be a moment of encounter and growth for everyone, especially families (nature treasure hunt and mini electric car circuit).
